Hello Again... Community Engagement Nonprofit Design Grant Program Update Design Spotlight Closing Remarks
Hello Again...
Welcome to the third issue of Fifth Letter's email-based newsletter. You are receiving this message because you are a current client, business partner, or someone who has expressed curiosity in learning more about our studio. We hope you enjoy our occasional missives enough to pass them along to a friend or business associate. Conversely, feel free to unsubscribe at any time. We have made it very easy to do.
Community Engagement
Our Valentine's Day event was a great success. We created a presentation showcasing what some of our experiences have been working with the nonprofit community through our grant program, while also trying our best to negate some widely-held stereotypes. We also explain how at Fifth Letter we're doing our best to be a partner when these organizations need to plan their future outreach, capital campaign, and other marketing initiatives.
If anyone is interested in the content of our conversation, email us and we will forward along a PDF file of our notes.
Nonprofit Design Grant Program Update
Speaking of nonprofits, we also want to provide an update for you regarding our annual Design Grant Program.
Our first year was a big success, and now we're ready to grow the program some more. As mentioned in our last newsletter, we worked on projects with Crisis Control Ministry and Smart Start of Forsyth County; one being printed materials for free clinics and the other being a new online presence. Now we're ready to see what our next grant cycle will bring.
Beginning today, we encourage all area nonprofits to visit our site to learn more about our program for 2008. We've clarified our application a bit, made it easier to fill out, and added some guidance to list of considerations for chosen projects. Oh, and we've also increased the amount of donated time by $2,500.
Ready to get started? Visit our website to learn more and download our application materials. If you know someone who may also be interested, feel free to forward this message, or have them visit our site and quickly search for "nonprofit grant." But hurry! Our due date is May 30 at 5:00 pm.
Design Spotlight
The Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts, a nonprofit affiliate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, returned to Fifth Letter so we could once again create materials for their annual speaker series. The theme for the 2008 season was “Earth: Writers and Artists Engage the Environment” and included speaking engagements and workshops with Jonathan Gilligan, Terry Tempest Williams, Herb Parker, and W.S. Merwin.
We decided that worn river stones would serve as an appropriate metaphor for man's harmony with his surroundings, and coupled that image with subtle earthen hues and a flecked paper with recycled content. The client really enjoyed our solution, the speakers have asked for copies of the poster, and we feel it created a pitch-perfect tone to represent the lecture series.
You can see more images of the project here.
Closing Remarks
We celebrated our third anniversary at the beginning of April (April Fool's Day, actually), and want to thank all of our clients, suppliers, and friends for the relationships grown and support provided. We look forward to continued growth, a variety of new projects, and interesting challenges as we begin our fourth year.
