Hello...

Welcome to the first issue of Fifth Letter's email-based newsletter. You are receiving this message because you are a current client, business partner, or someone who has expressed curiosity in learning more about our studio. We hope you enjoy our occasional missives enough to pass them along to a friend or business associate. Conversely, feel free to unsubscribe at any time. We have made it very easy to do.

Our New Website

Our New Website

We are incredibly excited to share the results of six months' worth of hard work -- our new website. We encourage you to visit the site and check back often for new information and additions to our portfolio. Before you visit for the first time, we would like to point out a few special features to make your visit as enjoyable as possible.

Our site is 100% searchable. If you are only interested in logos, simply search for "logos" and you will be taken to the results. This makes getting specific information quick and easy.

Our portfolio is organized based upon the type of work we have created for our different clients. Viewing a category will display a page of thumbnails for easy viewing, and rolling over the images will provide specific client information. Click on the one that interests you the most and you will be taken to a complete project description.

Our "Clients Only" section is a simple way to preview work in your web browser and upload or download files that may be needed when working on a project together. All accounts are private and secure, so no two clients can see one another's work in progress.

Nonprofit Design Grant Program

Nonprofit Design Grant Program

Fifth Letter is excited to announce the selection of of two nonprofit organizations receiving pro bono assistance via our first annual Design Grant Program. A committee of local business, education, and nonprofit leaders has selected Smart Start of Forsyth County and Crisis Control Ministry from a pool of fifteen applicants. Fifth Letter will be creating printed materials for Crisis Control Ministry's free pharmacy and redesigning Smart Start's website. Our award of $10,000 in donated design time will be split equally between the two organizations.

"Crisis Control Ministry, and in particular our free pharmacy operation, is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Fifth Letter," says Mike Foster, Crisis Control Ministry's Director of Development. "For our organization, collaboration has always been at the center of successful projects. With Fifth Letter’s knowledge of and appreciation for the nonprofit community, Crisis Control eagerly looks forward to how this new pharmacy campaign will positively impact many of our neighbors in need."

Natasha Gore, Community Education Coordinator for Smart Start of Forsyth County, shares a similar sentiment. "We are excited to have the opportunity to work with a firm that has nonprofit experience. Our website needs to be able to reach parents and teachers in a user-friendly way and we're confident that Fifth Letter will be able to design a site with that in mind."

The panel responsible for determining the recipients was composed of Margaret Collins of the Piedmont Triad Partnership, LaShonda Hairston of the Wake Forest School of Divinity, Chris McLaughlin of Knowledge 2 Work at Wake Forest University, Andrea Rice of SolidSpace, Jeff Smith of Smitty's Notes, and Jim Toole of MBA Actuaries.

Design Spotlight

Design Spotlight

Chronicle Books, a publisher in San Francisco, asked that we design a book for them cover to cover. "Extreme Barbecue" highlights various homemade barbecue recipes, the characters who created them, and the cookers, secret ingredients, tools and techniques they used. From the extravagant to the downright primitive, "Extreme Barbecue" is an entertaining catalog of America's obsession with barbecue.

Full of the stories of cooking savants and eccentrics, "Extreme Barbecue" demanded a look and feel as unique as the individuals showcased within its pages. We decided a rustic style was appropriate and then coupled it with some more contemporary design elements. The overall result is a book that educates, entertains, and makes stomachs rumble, all while feeding the reader’s wanderlust to travel the country.
